IN PERSON: filmmaker and subject Waad and Hamza al-Kateab

Filmed over five years, Waad al-Kateab’s bracing autobiographical portrait documents the unfathomable horrors committed against the people of Aleppo, Syria during the country’s bloody uprising. Crafted for her infant daughter Sama, al-Kateab chronicles the bliss of meeting her husband, giving birth in a war torn territory, and the fraught daily lives of those who chose to stay and fight at a local hospital. An achingly personal and distinctly feminine look at one of the most unimaginable human atrocities of our time.
