CIRCUS OF BOOKS

Directed by Rachel Mason

Meet Karen and Barry Mason, typical American parents — who also run the gay erotica eporium (and cruising hotspot) Circus of Books. Stumbling into the gay porn industry in 1982, the Masons led a double life between the seedy and the suburbs. Having tried their best to keep business and family life separate, both worlds collide as their story filters through the intimate lens of director and daughter Rachel Mason. Through revealing interviews with family members and icons like Larry Flynt, the film explores how a small business began as a way to support a young family but turned into a West Hollywood institution.
